Spring 2018 Trends: Gingham

I’m sitting here looking out my sliding door wishing for warmer weather. After the below average temps (-20 Degrees anyone?) i’ll take anything on the positive side of the thermometer. This past weekend was like a heat wave at 50 degrees, i half expected to see people out in shorts. LOL. Well. warmer temps won’t hit New England for a quite a while. So to get myself into the spring mood, i’ve decided to do a Spring 2018 Trend Series. These are my takes on what I think are going to be huge in the next coming months. First up: The Spring Trends 2018: Gingham.

Gingham had quite a resurgence last spring and it carried well, into summer and fall. Gone are florals for spring. I can’t help but think of Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking?”. And I second her semi disdain for the trend. Now don’t get me wrong i love pretty floral prints, but after years, the trend kind of gets old. Besides being a fresh alternative to florals, gingham has clear appeal. The check is as classic as polka dots or stripes. It has a preppy vibe that is perfect for warmer weather, or it can be styled to be a little bit more edgy.

With cooler temperatures still around an easy spring up date can be easily achieved by popping a gingham blouse under a sweater. For a “I’m ready for spring, but it’s still too cold vibe”. On the flip side adding a pair of gingham pants with a sweater and some statement boots is another option.

If you’re lucky enough to live in a warmer climate, then a gingham print skirt or dress is a very springy option. You can give it a little bit more of a street style edge by draping a leather jacket over your shoulders or by incorporating an oversized denim jacket. Leather accessories also take your style up a notch.

Last summer I really got into the gingham trend with an adorable retro inspired romper from American Eagle that you can check out here: Gingham Days.

A really cool, updated way to wear gingham is in color. Forget the traditional black and white combo, and opt for something in pastel pink or vibrant red.

If you aren’t quite ready to make the full on jump into a gingham ensemble, you can incorporate a subtle touch with gingham accessories. I’ve linked a few of my favorites bellow.

There are so many ways to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe, from head to toe or with a subtle accessories. So let me know, do you think gingham is still going to be a huge trend? Are you going to incorporate it into your wardrobe this season? I can’t wait to hear! Leave me some love in the comments below.
